LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)– A former high-ranking Acadia Parish Sheriff’s deputy is behind bars once again.
Maxine Trahan, the former public information officer for the sheriff’s office, was been booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center this morning.
In April of this year, Trahan was accused of stealing more than $25,000 in money seized from drug busts in Acadia Parish.
This morning, she was booked by Louisiana State Police on two felony warrants; one for exploitation of the infirmed, and one for felony theft.
An arrest affidavit states that Trahan is accused of manipulating an elderly Duson woman, who is also a stroke victim, to pay her bond for her April arrest.
The affidavit shows Trahan forged 34 checks that she claimed to be for groceries.
But the victim says she never paid for groceries with checks, always in cash.
The more than $24,000 worth of checks was either cashed or deposited into Trahan’s checking account.
The affidavit shows that Trahan had been caring for the elderly woman since 2006.
The woman allowed Trahan to live rent free in compensation for being her caretaker.
Trahan’s bond was set at $75,000 and she posted bond just after 3 p.m. according to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center’s website.
