LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)- Trips to the Mile High City and to Disney World, will now be a convenient option for Lafayette travelers.

Officials with the Lafayette Airport Commission say that they’ve been working on this deal with Frontier since January.

Officials say it’s a great new service that will make the airport more competitive and give passengers additional options.

“It sounds like something I would be going to on my next trip. That’s mad cheap, I’m going to have to rock with that,” said Imani Henry who’s from Lafayette.

“The routing will be, the aircraft will ready from Orlando, come to Lafayette, Lafayette to Denver, turn its course back to Lafayette then Orlando,” said Steven Picou, Executive Director of the Lafayette Regional Airport.

“It’s seasonal service flights to start, as the nonstop rides will only be offered on Wednesday’s and Saturday’s.

But if could expand if customers appear to be interested in the service.

“We take a look at a lot of different variables but it really has been about demand and access to low fares,” said Scott Fisher with Frontier Airlines.

The flights to Orlando start at $39, and the flights to Denver start at $49.

Lafayette Mayor-President Joel Robideaux says the move will allow for more possible job opportunities, connecting businesses between the cities, and will give residents living in Orlando and Denver the chance to experience Lafayette and Cajun culture.

“If anyone wants to experience any of our festivals or our food, they can just hop on a plane, and get here and have those experiences.

So yes, it works both ways.

It’s not just Lafayette citizens going to Denver and Orlando, its an opportunity for those guys to have a direct flight here,” said Robideaux.

The service starts on October 24.
