Drivers are seeing gas prices going up all around Acadiana.
According to gasbuddy.com, a consumer website, the average price of a gallon of regular gas in Lafayette on Monday is $2.38, which is up 6 cents from last week.
At this same time last year, Costco Wholesale was selling gasoline for less than $2 a gallon at the pump, according to GasBuddy.com.
The retailer, located near the intersection of Kaliste Saloom and Ambassador Caffery Parkway, was selling gasoline for $1.98 for a gallon.
Two Evangeline Thruway outlets, RaceTrac and Super 1 Foods, were next cheapest at $2.03.
The national average gas price Friday, February 2 was $2.60, up 3 cents from last week and 62 cents higher than the national average from a year ago, when motorists were paying $1.98.
Analysts cite an uncharacteristically high demand for gasoline as well as oil prices that are almost $10 above the level at this time last year.
