LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)— Governor John Bel Edwards makes an announcement in Lafayette about millions of federal dollars the state will receive to widen I-10.
Adding an additional lane on 1-10 from the Base of the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge to I-49, according to Governor John Bel Edwards, is an economic opportunity to better move products and services along the interstate.
“One-third of all those vehicles on the interstate are involved in freight.”
The project will also involve pavement replacement.
In 2018-19 the state plans to connect LA 328 and LA 348.
DOTD Secretary Dr. Shawn Wilson says the price tag for that sits at about $100 Million with roundabouts at both intersections.
“The extra lanes will relieve congestion experienced by 60,000 people a day that travel this stretch each way.”
In the next few months, the state will be taking bids.
The governor explained that the citizens of Louisiana deserve the opportunities that come with an improved transportation system adding that we deserve a higher quality of life.
“Because the quality of life is not too high when you’re stuck in traffic.”
The state says we should state to see construction work after the holidays.
