FRANKLIN, La. (KLFY)—Governor John Bel Edwards joined DOTD staff at the site of the newest road project.

Just around noon on Monday in Franklin La. Governor Edwards met with several parties involved in the I-49 corridor project.

The project consists of adding an overpass along U.S. 90, over La HWY 318.

The project will cost the state nearly $70 million and representatives with the local government say it’s well worth it.

Edwards says this is one of the more dangerous stretches of the road in this part of the state, and quality of life is a major concern.

The completion of the corridor is all a part of his commitment to upgrade transportation infrastructure.

According to Edwards, finishing the corridor will put Louisiana on a level playing field with our sister states who already have superior roadways.

“Obviously when we can do more to improve this roadway behind me, to connect Lafayette and New Orleans, you’re going to see an awful large amount of investment in this area because it just makes sense.”

If weather permits, Edwards says the project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2017.
