YOUNGSVILLE, La. (KLFY)— Youngsville was one of the hardest hit areas in Acadiana during the recent flooding and Governor John Bel Edwards is set to tour the area tomorrow morning.

The residents of Youngsville are continuing to clean up. Piles of rubbish still line the streets, furniture, trash, all memories thrown away.

Mayor Ken Ritter said he hopes to show the governor just some of the 600 flooded homes in the city.

“I really want to get the governor to see firsthand some of the devastation and not only devastation but what our city and community has done since the flooding event to really start the cleanup and recovery process.”

The Mayor said the city isn’t looking for a handout, however, it’s looking for a hand-up, “I’m excited that the governor is coming. I think it will be beneficial for him to connect to some of our residents and see what we’re going through.”

The cleanup process, though, isn’t over yet, “It’s still going on.” said Troy Greene, a resident of Youngsville, “You can see people still have trash outside and people are still tearing down their houses because of the flood damage.”

According to Mayor Ritter, 1,400 tons of debris has been collected since Friday and it’s still underway. He added that the city wants to give residents time to get in and rebuilt.

Greenie continued to help his family clean even as the sun set, “We’re family. I mean I want to be part of it and do what’s right for the community.” Said Geenie wanting everyone to stay positive, “We can do it. People shouldn’t give up.”

Governor Edwards is also scheduled to visit Lake Arthur tomorrow morning, he is scheduled to arrive at 10:45 a.m.

Edwards will then visit the sandbag site near Grand Avenue and Pleasant Street.
