Tonight, Governor John Bel Edwards is heading to Convent, Louisiana in St. James Parish to view the damage from today’s severe weather.
The governor is traveling to the area at the recommendation of State Police Superintendent Col. Mike Edmonson and Col. James Waskom, Director of the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP).
“I ask all Louisianans to pray for the victims of the terrible storms that touched down in Louisiana today and especially at the Sugar Hill RV Park in Convent,” said Governor John Bel Edwards.
“And let us not forget their families and the first responders working so tirelessly tonight to save lives. We will do all that we can to help restore the families, businesses and communities destroyed by this tragedy.”
Governor Edwards has issued a proclamation declaring a state of emergency in the following seven parishes affected by the severe weather today:
- Assumption
- Iberville
- Pointe Coupee
- St. Helena
- St. James
- St. John the Baptist
- Washington
