MELVILLE, La. (KLFY) – A mother and her two sons were arrested Tuesday in the death of 15-year-old Travon Edwards.

A 12-year-old boy was charged with negligent homicide.

His mother, 33-year-old Twanda Washington and her 15-year-old son have been charged with obstruction of justice.

Washington is also facing a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

Captain Clay Higgins, with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, said many family members were there while the teenagers were giving their statements to investigators.

A woman who says she’s the teenagers’ grandmother, wants to know what really happened.

“All I know is that’s my grandsons in there and Travon, the one that got killed, was like my grandson too. He would always be with them. He would always call me “momo” too. I can’t say what happened because I’m not in there, I don’t know,” Sandra Tezeno told KLFY’s Jazmin Thibodeaux.

Tezeno said her grandsons and Travon had been friends for years before he was found dead on Friday night:

“To the family, to Marie’s family I’m so sorry it happened. We have just been asking for the truth.”

Tezeno said she heard the fatal shooting was accidental.

“I don’t even know where to begin. I don’t even know what to say. All I can say is that I’m sorry all of this happened. I’m friends with the family too. I’m friends with his momma too,” said Tezeno.

The teenagers’ great-grandfather said this tragedy came as a shock to their families.

“They would come to my house and he would be to her house playing and all of that. I’m sorry it happened,” said Ira Kerry.

The teenagers are now being held at a juvenile detention center.
