OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY)- An Abbeville man has been charged after St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office K-9 detected drugs in his vehicle, the department said.

On July 13, Keiffer Williams, 35, was stopped for a traffic violation.

“Williams began acting very nervous when agents questioned him. During the traffic stop, officers asked Williams if he would consent to a voluntary search, Williams refused,” the department said today. “Agents then used their narcotic detection K-9 to search the open air around the SUV, and the K-9 gave a positive alert for the presence of illegal narcotics inside or on the vehicles.”

Inside the vehicle, two postal boxes on the passenger front seat and floor board were located. Inside the boxes was a clear plastic container containing clear vacuum sealed packages that containing a high grade marijuana (8.75 pounds).

Upon Williams arrest, a search of Williams uncovered a small clear plastic bag containing additional marijuana in his right front pocket. Agents estimated the street value of the high grade marijuana at $45,000.

Williams was charged with the following:

  • One count signal lamps and signal devices
  • One count possession of schedule I with intent to distribute (marijuana) over 400 hundred grams (3969 grams, 8.75 pounds)
  • One count possession of schedule I controlled dangerous substance, (marijuana)

His bond was set at $50, 500
