UPDATE:  Carencro police have arrested one person after a high speed pursuit through parts of Lafayette and St. Landry Parishes Saturday afternoon.

Police Chief David Anderson said officers were called out to hit and run crash on I-49 around 5 p.m.

When they arrived, Anderson said the suspect took off.

As the vehicle fled, police began a chase down the interstate at high speeds.

It ended when the suspects tire blew out near Grand Coteau and he was apprehended, Anderson said.

His identity has not been released but police did say he was in possession of a weapon.

No injuries were reported.

GRAND COTEAU, La. (KLFY) A hit and run suspect in Carencro is currently leading police on a dangerous high speed chase along Interstate 49 approaching Grand Coteau.

Carencro police say they were called to the scene and when they attempted to make contact with the suspect, he drove away in a pick-up truck.
