Police responded to a domestic violence call around 9:30 AM on Thursday to the Easton Oaks Trailer Park. Soon after state police, a SWAT team and hostage negotiators were called. Within moments the domestic violence call turned into a deadly hostage situation.
M/T Brooks David says officials were reminded just how serious the situation was after the suspects fiance managed to break through a window on the trailer. She screamed for help yelling through the broken window, “he is going to kill me”. Shots were fired at police from inside the home, that’s when David says police responded.
“One round was fired from a state police trooper, killing the one male suspect inside. Troopers then entered the mobile home rescuing the female subject, taking her outside. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.” said David
Chuck Johnson, the owner of the trailer park, says there were concerns about the couple prior to this situation. Johnson said there had been many complaint by the neighbors over the constant yelling and fighting coming from inside the home, and even out on the front yard.
“Because of the complaints from some of the people that lived in the park, I was in the process of doing a little investigation and possibly a removal.” said Johnson.
The police were able to evacuate the eight mobile homes located in the trailer park. Residents were directed to the Pine Prairie firehouse, where they were able to remain for several hours while the scene was being investigated and then were allowed to return to their homes around 9:30 pm.
“Because the trailer was in the front of the trailer park, we needed to get those people out of there in case shots were fired.” said David
Police are still investigating this situation.
