LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – When job seekers and sub-contractors entered the LITE center on Friday, they were directed to put their information into a system which was then sent to five contractors who are looking to hire people to work for the Shelter at Home program.

Over 200 people attended the job fair where they had the opportunity to meet with the contractors working for the Shelter at Home program.

Paul Gobert was one of those job seekers.

“It’s great to give me an opportunity to come out here and give me an opportunity to work,” said Gobert.

As he wrote down his information and spoke with contractors, Gobert was hopeful his past experience would qualify him for future positions.

“I’m looking for a Superintendent job to where I can put my expertise to another company with my 35 plus years of experience,” said Gobert

With all of the damage that was left from the flooding, contractors working for the shelter at home program are looking to double the amount of their crews.

After being laid off by a construction company, Gobert said this job fair makes him hopeful for the future.

“I think it’s great that we have an opportunity and also it’s been a disaster with the flood but it’s also an opportunity to help out with the people who are in need of work,” said Gobert, “It’s giving me hope. Hope for a new job and new experience.”
