A man wanted for false imprisonment of his estranged wife in Mermentau has died after suffering what police said was a self-inflicted gunshot.

According to Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson, authorities responded to a suspicious circumstance in Mermentau late Wednesday evening.

When deputies arrived, they discovered that Jordy Thibodeaux had shot himself, Gibson said.

Thibodeaux was wanted for a false imprisonment and other charges, stemming from a Monday evening disturbance.

He was transported by Acadia Ambulance to a local hospital where he died.

The Acadia Parish Corners Office has ruled the shooting a suicide.
