UPDATE:
Both lanes on I-10 West and East is now open following a hazmat leak.
According to DOTD I-10 remains closed between LA 95 (Duson) and LA 93 (SCOTT) due to a crash.
- I-10 West is now being diverted at 1-49
- I-10 East is now being diverted to La 35 to US 90.
The crash occurred at 12:40 p.m.
According to a news release, emergency responders received a call from a truck driver who indicated that smoke was coming from his trailer.
Upon arrival, emergency crews said the noticed smoke coming from a liquid tanker which was cooled off quickly.
Emergency crews said the product inside the tank was identified as molten sulfur.
“The insulation between the tank and the exterior wrapping was smoldering.” States a news release, “After removing some of the exterior wrapping the smoldering insulation was extinguished.”
The news release additionally said there was also a small leak on the trailer which was quickly contained and stopped.
Emergency crews say they are now awaiting a private company to transport the tanker to a safe area to offload the product.
DUSON, La. (KLFY) – Louisiana Sate Police say I-10 at mile marker 94 between Duson and Scott has been shut down due to an 18-wheeler leaking hazardous materials.
State Police Emergency Services Unit and fire department personnel are on scene.
Drivers are advised to use US 190 as an alternate route.
Officials are asking residents to avoid the area. News 10 will update this story when more information is available.
