An Iberia Parish family is salvaging what they can at home after a weekend of flooding.  Quickly rising water caught many families off guard.

According to KLFY Chief Meteorologist Heath Morton, over the weekend the rain totals for Acadiana reached 6 to 8 inches of rain. “We got the alerts on our phone about the flood warning, but we have never experienced this before. The water has come in the yard before but never that high,” explains the Andy Gott of Iberia Parish.

Andy and Paige Gott knew they were in trouble Friday when water started coming into their Iberia Parish home. That’s when they called the sheriff’s office for help. “The sheriff department came in an airboat and my dad came in a canoe right behind them,” adds Paige Gott.

When the Gott’s were able to return home Sunday they found their yard soaked.  They went inside their home to find water everywhere. “We had our infant five-month-old with us.  Whenever the water started coming up in the house, then we started picking up furniture and saving as much as we could,” says Andy Gott.

The Gott family says they not only lost personal belongings but also the family dog that was afraid to come from underneath the house once the water started to rise.
