NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY) An unidentified man was shot dead Friday night in the 500 block of St. Mary Street.

The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 10:30 p.m.

Deputies responded to reports of gun shots and arrived  to find a male victim in a vehicle, which had crashed into a utility pole.

They said he had been shot multiple times and died before Acadian Ambulance arrived.

His exact cause of death and identity will be determined by the coroner’s office.

The case is being investigated as a homicide.
