UPDATE:The following is a news release from the Iberia Parish President:
In order to safeguard Iberia Parish residents from the continued effects of Tropical Storm Harvey, Iberia Parish President M. Larry Richard has extended the previously issued parish-wide voluntary evacuation for an additional twenty-four (24) hours.
The National Weather Service has forecasted additional heavy rains, some which are anticipated to occur at or near the predicted time for high tides as well as higher than previously expected storm surges, all of which could result in flooding in low lying areas of Iberia Parish, which could impede evacuation efforts in those areas.
Elderly residents and residents with special medical or mobility requirements should strongly consider evacuating until the risk of Iberia Parish from Tropical Storm Harvey has passed.
If the threat of dangerous weather worsens, Iberia Parish Government will consider declaring a mandatory evacuation providing evacuation assistance, and opening a shelter for residents in need of a place to stay.
It is further advised that residents refrain from travel on roads and bridges during periods of heavy rainfall or tornado development.
