In the fall, Lafayette Parish voters will decide whether to take $10 million out of surplus library funds, for roads, bridges and drainage.

That would also include $2 million dollars for Parks and Recreation. But what drainage projects would your tax dollars pay for?

News Tens Lester Duhe has the story.

8 million dollar re-dedication, if that goes forward, it is going to absolutely, be able to definitely improve you know projects here and there.

In October, voters will decide on re-dedicating surplus library funds.  2 million to the parks and recreation department.  8 million to roads, bridges, and drainage, but which projects would it that money pay for?

“I would assume we would continue with the next group, group b, group c. potentially even the possibility of re-assessing the list as it exists today.”

LCG’s Department of Public Works says 18 of the original 77 drainage projects that were picked out in 2017 have been completed,  and they’re expecting 10 more to be completed by September, bringing that total up to 28.

“Weather has affeced us. and we may be a little behind of what we have originally expected, but we are gaining ground.”

Fred Trahan is an engineer for LCG’s Public Works Department.  He says it’s up to the administration where those fund would be used, but with more money, more projects could be completed throughout the parish.

“We’ll be rating those channels, under the same rating system that we initially prepared. and we’ll see where the best use of the funds are.”

Wingerter says the Robideaux administration will work until his term is up in December.. but it’s really up to the next administration to continue the work.

“The parish council’s going to be in charge of the drainage funding so, together with the new administration with the parish council will be working in tandem with the city council and presumably the other municipalities to tagain, tackle what they believe is important.”
