LAFAYETTE, La. (Amanda McElfresh/The Advertiser)- Wooden signs with ‘In God We Trust’ etched on them will be on display in all Lafayette Parish public schools, beginning in January.
The signs were made by students in Southside High’s woodworking department.
The move is so Lafayette Parish complies with a new state law that requires all public schools in Louisiana to display the motto on campus.
The motto must be displayed by August 2019, but Lafayette Parish is making the move early.
The state legislature approved the measure this past spring. Gov. John Bel Edwards signed it into law in May.
