It’s business as usual on the I-10 bridge but below a multi-agency search is underway.
Investigators continue to search near the boat launch under the I-10 bridge where they believe a piece of evidence in an ongoing investigation may be found.
The crime scene has been roped off since 8 a.m. Monday and investigators have been combing the brush near the boat launch for hours. Calcasieu Sheriff Tony Mancuso said it’s all part of a joint investigation that’s been going on for quite some time.
“We’re looking for what we believe could be some evidence in a crime, said Mancuso.
Authorities are being tight-lipped on details surrounding the search that required heavy machines and sent officers armed with shovels deep into the brush near the boat launch.
“It’s been going on quite some time now..it’s not something that’s new. Again, it’s just some evidence that we feel may be out here,” he said.
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations — all involved in the hunt Mancuso said is part of something bigger.
“We’ve got the FBI’s excavation team looking for some evidence and they have the expertise when it’s something like this so they’re looking and because the nature of where we think it is it just takes some equipment that they have and have easy access to,” he said.
While authorities won’t say anything further at this time they believe the answers they’re looking for may be close.
“Yes we have ideas but we don’t want to speculate right now. As soon as we can put our hands on this piece of evidence we’ll release more information but at this time we just don’t want to give any false hopes or false rumors. We know when people see this they look and they want to know what’s going on but that’s what we’re doing out here we’re looking for evidence right now,” Mancuso said.
It’s evidence he believes is in this area, but he admitted the search could help them. But it could also be another area marked off the list.
“Hopefully in our investigation it may solve a piece of the puzzle and may help us — we’ll see,” Mancuso said.
There’s no word on exactly when the search may be over. Mancuso does want the public to know there is no danger associated with this police presence.Copyright 2015 KPLC. All rights reserved.
