The Islamic center of Lafayette held an open house this weekend in an effort to reach out to the Lafayette community for an open discussion about Islam and the variety of cultures within it.

The center’s president, Mohamad Elsaleh, says they hold this event so people will know what their religion truly is about, “What it means is the religion of peace and it’s not what they see on tv or any other medias.”

He hopes the open house will show the people of Lafayette what it means to have Muslims be a part of the community.

Elsaleh says the center is open 365 days a year for anyone who wants to visit or may want to learn about the Islamic faith.
