LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)- A dedication ceremony took place today for the unveiling of Corporal Michael Middlebrook Elementary School.  

Adrienne Middlebrook, Cpl. Michael Middlebrook’s wife, said, “My husband is my hero and he’s definitely a hero to the community, and this just means that his legacy is going to live on for generations to come.” 

“What a wonderful place for Corporal Middlebrook to be remembered forever,” Superintendent of LPSS, Dr. Donald W. Aguillard added. 

“Today, I stand here representing our family to give you the school a framed photo of Corporal Michael Middlebrook,” Michele Middlebrook Harris, sister of Cpl. Middlebrook said.  

Principal Anne Herrmann said the school is honored to hold the name of Cpl. Middlebrook. 

“Here at Corporal Michael Middlebrook, we really try to instill leadership and character among our students so what a wonderful role model that we can have in the name of our school,” said Herrmann.  

“He was a great leader. He was a tremendous loss to us, but I can think of no better way than to honor him in this way by a great school, great leadership school to be named after him,” Lafayette Police Chief Toby Aguillard added. 

Lafayette Parish Sheriff Mark Garber said, “His sacrifice will be forever memorialized in the name of this school so that everyone who was here in this community on October 1 and everyone going forward will know the sacrifice that he made.” 

There has been trial date has been set for Ian Howard in connection with Middlebrook’s death. He will go to trial on three charges for attempted murder of the injured officers in November.
