JENNINGS, La. (KLFY)- A teenage boy remains hospitalized after what appears to be an accidental shooting in the Jennings area. 

Jeff Davis Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting last night around 8:30 p.m. at 10402 J. B. Farm Road.

When deputies arrived they found a 14-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck inside the home.  The victim was taken by Acadian Ambulance for treatment.

He had surgery last night and is currently in the intensive care unit, the sheriff’s office said. 

Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses that were at the scene of the incident.  It appears to have been an accidental discharge that caused the injury. 

The investigation is still ongoing at this time . 

 “It’s a terrible accident that could have been prevented. A reminder that firearms should be unloaded and secured when not in use by responsible parties,” Sheriff Ivy Woods said.
