After half a century of being housed in the Jeff Davis Parish Courthouse, the sheriff’s office has moved to a new location. 

Their new building is located at 1530 La. Hwy 90 W. It used to be the Westend Psychiatric Hospital.

Chief Deputy Christopher Ivey says the new space will allow employees to work more efficiently and bring better service to the community. He adds that the sheriff was able to buy the space without it costing more in taxes for Jeff Davis Parish residents.

“This building was purchased with money that we had in our general fund. The sheriff has been pretty diligent about being frugal with the tax payers’ money that’s coming in,” says Ivey.

The new office is located just west of what will soon be the new Jeff Davis Parish Jail. While the new jail is being built, the bonds and fines department of the Sheriff’s Office will continue to be based in the courthouse.
