OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) – St. Landry Parish Judge James P. Doherty has thrown out a lawsuit filed against Opelousas Mayor Reginald Tatum over a public records request.
The lawsuit, which was filed on October 5, 2016, claimed that Tatum failed to honor the request for thousands of public records from the mayor’s office.
Tatum told News 10 he was asked by the plaintiff to produce over 4,000 documents.
The public requests stemmed from allegations of the mayor illegally clocking overtime during the August flood. The mayor denied those allegations saying he did nothing wrong and that he was following the orders of FEMA.
In the hearing today, Judge Doherty threw out the suit on the basis that Tatum had responded to the plaintiff in the proper amount of time and that the amount of documents requested was unreasonable.
