LAFAYETTE, La (KLFY) – A group of Judice Middle School teachers who apparently left school early one day last week will not face any disciplinary action.

The parish school district says it’s not about the teachers adding they have no problem with educators getting a well-deserved break.

LPSS Chief Administrative Officer Joe Craig explains the problem is that the school district was not notified about the outing.

Craig says he doesn’t believe the teachers should be disciplined. “There’s no discipline associated with the teachers.  What we are looking at are the procedures for building administrators,” adds Craig.

LPSS Building Administrator is actually the principal of the school. Craig says there’s a safety element to consider as well. If there had been an accident, it would be unsettling for head administrators to not have an answer to why those teachers were out and about.

“For all practical purposes the teachers were dismissed early.  That’s something the district wants to be aware of and you want to be cleared for that type of activity,”

Craig says the bus used that day is privately owned, but even with that policy and procedures must be followed.

“It’s not a problem of the bus being used, but did the driver have the authority and permission to be doing that during the work day,” notes Craig.  “It was never an issue of the teachers doing something wrong, because their direct supervisor the building administrator gave them permission,”
