It’s day two of the trial for  Lafayette City Marshal Brian Pope.

He faces malfeasance and perjury charges.

Today, the jury selection begins for the trial.

There are 85 people in the jury pool, all from Lafayette Parish.

The judge said he wants to solely focus on narrowing down that pool.

The goal is to get to a jury of twelve with possibly 2 or 3 alternates

Attorneys can request to have a person removed who does not appear capable of rendering a fair and impartial verdict.

Pope is also facing 7 other charges of malfeasance in one office… he’s to be tried on those charges separate from today’s proceedings.
