(The Daily Advertiser) – Erin Seilhan adopted Shelby the Persian six years ago. Two hundred outfits and more than 28,000 followers later, the Lafayette duo has reached a level of Instagram fame that has fans begging for more.

By day, Seilhan works in marketing for an auto group in Alexandria. Shelby, on the other hand, lives a life of leisure while posing for pictures daily. Shelby is a very docile cat —as soon as she sees a camera, she poses as if she knows her fans across the world are waiting to see what she’ll be doing next.

You’ll often see Shelby photographed with food or wine.

“She’s a very picky eater,” explained Seilhan. “The only people food she eats is Raising Canes French fries.”

Seilhan didn’t want to mention what type of food Shelby eats because they often receive gifts from pet food companies.

“Shelby gets more mail than I do. People send toys, treats, litter,” she said.

Seilhan always knew Shelby would be a star, but she never realized the Instagram account she created would become so popular.

Shelby isn’t the only pet in her household, but she’s the only one who has an Instagram account in her name. She shares her home with two Boston Terriers, and they’re both aware that Shelby is the celebrity.

Shelby is seven years old. Seilhan says when she first adopted Shelby, she was covered in fleas and ill. Once she nursed Shelby back to health, she vowed to treat her like a queen for the rest of her life.

Seilhan saw other famous online animals like Grumpy Cat and knew Shelby could be a star, too — that’s why she launched the Instagram account.

Each @officially_shelby Instagram post garners a minimum of 1,000 likes.

Seilhan admits it’s difficult for her to continue coming up with original ideas for posing Shelby for the photo shoots. They have hundreds of outfits, props, accessories and wigs for Shelby to wear during photos whenever the mood hits.

Most of Shelby’s clothes and accessories come from the Build-A-Bear Workshop, though some of her clothing does come from traditional pet stores.
