Lafayette declares ‘MacKenzie Bourg Day’

Since being booted from “American Idol,” hometown hero MacKenzie Bourg has not stopped blessing the world with his amazing vocals.

On Tuesday, the 23-year-old added one more special memory to his newly found fame by getting his own day in Lafayette.

Lafayette Mayor-President Joel Robideaux proclaimed Tuesday April 26, 2016 as “MacKenzie Bourg Day” to honor the budding star, whose rise to fame has taken him from local high school talent shows to a much sought after performer.

Bourg, who appeared at Tuesday’s Lafayette City-Parish Council meeting, stood with members of the council and thanked those who had gathered inside the auditorium for the announcement which was greeted by a thunderous applause.

Bourg was eliminated on the March 31 live show, just one week shy of the grand finale where America and the American Idol judges crowned Trent Harmon as the final American Idol over runner-up La’Porsha Renae.
