LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Investigators are working to find the cause of a house fire this morning in Lafayette.

The fire broke out just before 6:30 this morning in the nine hundred block of Surrey Street.

Investigators say the fire began in the living room and a smoke alarm was able to alert the four residents inside to get out safely.

Alton Trahan with the Lafayette Fire Department tells news 10 that the American Red Cross was on the scene to assist the family.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
