Lafayette General Medical Center partnered with the Cardiovascular Institute of the south to open a new Catheterization lab.
Nearly 5,000 patients were treated at Lafayette General Medical Center’s Cath lab in 2018. Medical leaders expressed how the program continues to grow. In efforts to meet the needs of the community, they believed it was time for an upgrade.
“This allows our patients to stay closer to home and closer to their families,” said CEO Patrick Gandy. Lafayette General and the Cardiovascular Institute of the South cut the ribbon on February 13th and became the largest cardiology program in the region.
“Patients were having to wait longer. So, now with the greater capacity, we can take care of more patients at a timely manner,” said Gandy. The center has doubled in size. It’s 25,000 square foot lab features four new state-of-the-art suites.
“We’re going to 28 short stay beds and moving from a four Cath lab suite to a seven Cath lab suite,’ Gandy added. Medica; officials believe this project is the perfect representation of their mission.
In addition, two new private physician consultation rooms will be used for family consults following patient procedures. The remodel allows for quick patient check-in and bedside registration.
The renovations and expansion also include a new Command Center where every patient is specially tracked with new technology. “Residents of Acadiana have access to more services. Investments like this into our Cath lab and cardiovascular services is a perfect example of that.” Professionals said this is improving communication across all phases of care. The new space is also equipped with the latest technology for staff education. This includes a large staff room to hold conferences and continuing education, as well as staff locker rooms with changing areas and showers.
Renovations allowed Lafayette General to combine their Cath lab teams for greater efficiency. “We were able to consolidate our cardiology service line,” Gandy added.
LGMC and CIS began a joint partnership to provide comprehensive cardiovascular care to Lafayette and the surrounding Acadiana communities in 2011. Lafayette General continues to partner with CIS in an effort to bring world-class physicians, state-of-the-art diagnostic capabilities and the latest technology to detect and treat heart and peripheral vascular disease at LGMC.
