The Lafayette Fire Department is investigating a house fire this afternoon at 156 Sherwood Dr.
The department’s spokesperson Alton Trahan said the fire has been contained to one room.
When emergency crews arrived at about 1:40 p.m, heavy smoke was coming from the home.
“The occupant and her two pets were outside in a safe area. The fire was extinguished within fifteen minutes,” Trahan said.
The home sustained moderate fire damage to the laundry room. The interior of the home sustained heavy smoke damage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
