(The Advertiser)-  A Lafayette lawyer and former federal prosecutor will be sworn in Friday as the director of the U.S. Marshals Service.

Donald Washington, a partner in the Lafayette law offices of Jones Walker, is expected to take the oath of office Friday at the federal courthouse in Shreveport.

U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Carl Stewart will administer the oath with Chief U.S. District Judge S. Maurice Hicks Jr. presiding.

“Don has been an exceptional asset to our firm and we are proud of him for being selected for this important role to lead the U.S. Marshals,” said Bill Hines, managing partner of the firm, in a news release. “He will be missed by his colleagues at Jones Walker.”

In October, President Donald Trump nominated Washington for the directorship.

His nomination was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on March 14.
