VERMILION PARISH, La. (KLFY)—  A Lafayette man is behind bars after a toxicology report lead to evidence of the driver in a fatal crash being over the legal limit.

Authorities tell KLFY News 10 that on the morning of April 28, Troopers arrested 31-year-old Martin Nguyen of Lafayette for charges relating to the fatal crash which occurred April 18, on LA 229 near Reno Rd.

Troopers discovered upon receiving toxicology report results that Nguyen was over the legal limit when the crash occurred. With the information from the report and other information gathered during the investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained for Nguyen.

Martin Nguyen was driving 150 mph in a 55 mph speed zone in a 2016 Chevrolet Corvette according to Troopers.

Authorities say, Martin Nguyen, was unable to negotiate a curve and ran off the right side of the roadway, causing the vehicle to flip and partially eject  Hoan Nguyen who was a passenger.

Martin Nguyen was arrested without incident at a hospital in Lafayette according to Troopers, he was booked into the Vermilion Parish Jail for charges including vehicular homicide, speeding 150/55 mph zone, reckless operation, and improper lane usage.

The case remains under investigation.
