BROUSSARD, LA. (KLFY) The driver of a 2007 Honda motorcycle suffered serious injuries after crashing Saturday at the intersection of Sweetland and Albertson’s Parkway in Broussard.
Police have identified the driver as 39 year old Jova McDowell of Lafayette. Police say he was wearing a helmet but was ejected from the bike and found laying on the ground north-east of the motorcycle, with a partially amputated leg.
A preliminary investigation has revealed that the motorcycle driver was traveling west on Albertson’s Parkway in the outside lane when the driver of a Toyota Tundra pulled out onto Albertson’s Parkway in an attempt to cross all lanes to get to Sweetland Dr.
At that point, police say the driver struck the motorcycle on the driver’s side, causing the motorcycle to slide into the ditch, ejecting the driver.
The driver of the Toyota has been identified as 78 year old Alton Butler of Broussard. Police say Butler suffered no injuries and was cited for failure to yield from a private drive.
Alcohol involvement is not believed to be a factor but toxicology results are pending.
