The Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court Office has begun issuing same-sex marriage licenses to anyone who applies for them starting today.  Louisiana was the only state in the country that had not issued a single license to a same-sex couple, after State Attorney General Buddy Caldwell weighed in telling clerks that they were under no obligation to issue licenses immediately.  Since 10 am Monday, parishes throughout the state have begun issuing licenses.

On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court voted 5-4 to legalize same-sex marriages nationwide.
