The Presidential Primary is a unique election that happens only once every four years.

The elections are only open to registered members of their respective parties.

That means that only registered Democrats can vote for the Democratic ticket and only registered Republicans can vote for the Republican ticket.

All other voters may vote only for any local offices and/or propositions if any are on the ballot in that parish.

“In Lafayette Parish, there’s about 30% of the voters that are registered no party or independent that will not be allowed to vote because we have no other issues on the ballot. There’s no propositions,” Louis Perret, the Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court, told KLFY’s Jade Choyce.

Perret says all 123 precincts in Lafayette Parish will be opened and staffed.

Make sure you remember to bring your ID with you to your polling location.

All polls open will be open on Saturday at 7 a.m.-8 p.m.
