LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office says at 12:10 a.m. Friday they responded to reports of a suicide but later realized that they were investigating a homicide.

It happened in the 100 block of Georgine Street.

Deputies say they arrived and discovered the body of 29 year old Rachael Alexander of Devils Lake, North Dakota.

A preliminary investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mrs. Alexander’s death lead detectives to be suspicious of the initial report of a suicide, according to Public Information Officer John Mowell.Mowell said based on evidence and information uncovered during the course of the investigation, detectives arrested 43 year old Joseph E. Dalahoussaye, Jr. of Lafayette and charged him with 2nd Degree Murder.
