UPDATE: Lafayette Police have identified the victim from this morning’s shooting on Hazel Street as 48-year-old Stephen Phillips, also known as “The General,” of Lafayette.

Corporal Paul Mouton said the case remains under investigation.

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – One man is dead after a shooting early Thursday morning in Lafayette.

Lafayette Police responded to the scene in the 300 block of Hazel Street and 12th Street at 1:40 a.m.

When officers arrived they discovered a male lying in the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds.

He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to Corporal Paul Mouton, officers are looking for the suspect.
