LAFAYETTE, La. (The Daily Advertiser) – Lafayette Parish public schools will have a voluntary jean day fundraiser for Hurricane Harvey victims on Sept. 8.

In exchange for a financial donation, students and staff can wear jeans to school that day.

The donation will be $1 for elementary students, and $2 for middle school students, high school students, faculty and staff.

Lafayette Parish has more than 30,000 students this year and more than 3,000 total employees.

All funds will go to the United Way and will benefit storm victims in Houston and east Texas.

In addition, anyone wishing to donate goods for Harvey victims can drop them off at the school system central office, 113 Chaplin Drive, Lafayette.

Schools in Lafayette Parish and most other parts of Acadiana were closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday because of the heavy rain Harvey brought to the area. Most schools re-opened Thursday.

Lafayette Parish officials said Wednesday they also will enroll any students displacedby the storm who may be temporarily living in the local area.
