A deputy at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center was arrested Thursday night after police learned she was smuggling contraband into the jail for inmates.
Authorities say 39 year old Sherry Wiltz of St. Martinville was arrested after an investigation was done into a relationship she was having with an inmate.
Detectives say they later learned the inmate had been contacting Wiltz through a phone number listed to her, and that Wiltz and the inmate had begun an intimate relationship.
Wiltz was incarcerated with a bond set at $25,000 bond.
