LAFAYETTE, La (KLFY) – The Upper Lafayette Economic Development Foundation held a luncheon Wednesday morning as city officials discussed the latest on transportation options in Lafayette.

“We’ve got quite a few projects underway, quite a few that are going to be starting soon, and several on the books,” said Tom Carroll, Lafayette Consolidated Public Works Director.

The city of Lafayette is continuing to see growth. With that comes the expansion of options for transportation.

“We’ve finished W. Pont de Mouton. We’re about to finish the E. Pont de Mouton project. We also hope to be completing the Louisiana Ave. project within the next year or so,” said Carroll.

Carroll says in spite of the downturn in the economy, that’s not stopping city projects from moving forward. Such as the new airport terminal that’s expected to break ground in about a year.

“We have secured some funding through the state of Louisiana,” said Steven Picou, Executive Director at Lafayette Regional Airport.

Picou says planning for the new addition is well underway.

“We’re starting the process of going through identifying the proper location of the terminal building, making sure everything’s in order, identifying utilities,” said Picou.

As visitors continue to touch down in the Hub city, transportation services, like Uber, prove to be very beneficial.

“The previous experience that some of our visitor’s had and our residents with the taxicab service was not always a very positive thing, but I’ve heard nothing but positive compliments regarding Uber, so I’m just very excited that we have that option available,” said Ben Berthelot, President & CEO of the Lafayette Convention & Visitors Commission.

With several more transportation projects planned for the near future, city officials hope to continue to make Lafayette a better place to travel.
