A Lafayette woman has been sentenced on 2 counts of federal wire fraud charges after stealing more than $1.4 million dollars from her former employer, a Broussard oil field company. 

54-year-old Susan Benoit was sentenced  to three years and four months in prison and was ordered to pay $1,490,588.70 in restitution to the victim. 

According to the January 18, 2018, guilty plea, Benoit worked for a Broussard, La. oilfield related company from 1998 to 2016 as the accountant and later Chief Financial Officer.

During that time, Benoit had access to the company’s bank accounts and transferred $1,490,588.70 from company accounts to her personal bank account.

The FBI conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kelly P. Uebinger prosecuted the case.
