Louisiana’s Medicaid recipients should keep an eye on their mailboxes for the next couples of weeks.

About 150,000 enrollees can expect to receive Medicaid renewal letters from the Louisiana Department of Health. If they fail to respond by June 6 they’ll lose coverage, WAFB TV reports.

In most cases, it will be helpful to keep financial information like earnings and wage data easily available.

The letters direct Medicaid recipients to renew here or by calling 1-888-342-6207.

In April, a new computer system initiated quarterly, rather than annual, wage eligibility checks. More than 30k people were deemed ineligible as a result. Officials speculated at the time that a large amount of those removed failed to respond to eligibility letters.

The encouraging news is not all hope is lost for those booted from the program.

LDH says people who lost coverage are encouraged to contact the Federal Insurance Marketplace to see if they can qualify for for alternative assistance.
