The Town of Church Point is heading to court on October 15.

A Church Point resident sued the town over two years ago. He says the town cost him about $9 million in lost revenue.

The Town of Church Point deferred us to their lawyers who said no comment pending litigation.

Tonight, we speak with the plaintiff in this lawsuit.

Joey Comeaux, CEO and Founder of CoverSix Training Academy, a business designed to provide active shooter response training, is disappointed in what he says could have been an economic impact for the Town of Church Point, but the town evicted him from the facility in August 2015, eight months after the town leased it to him.

“After holding classes here for two days, the new administration decides we don’t want you in Church Point. We don’t want an active shooter training company here, it’s gonna drive too much attention to our town. They did not want us here, so they evicted us,” says Comeaux.

The lawsuit reads, on or about December 22, 2014, by a unanimous vote, the Town’s Board of Aldermen authorized leasing the “Garan Building” to Joey Comeaux. On the same date, the parties executed the Lease and Mr. Comeaux paid the rental amount due for the initial term.

“We have all the insurance, all the license… we did everything from the beginning. We spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to get this building operational,” adds Comeaux.

In the pre-trial memorandum filed on behalf of Joey Comeaux, Comeaux and CoverSix have sustained the damages as follows:

  • Labor provided by Mr. Comeaux and Mr. Joseph Comeaux

  • Expenditures for material and labor

  • Costs of Beau Tate and Trevor Ducote, architects and engineers

  • Lost profits from 22 training sessions for groups who had agreed to training, but could not be trained due to Mr. Comeaux’s expulsion from the lease premises

  • Lost opportunity to train approximately 18,500 registered law enforcement officers

Comeaux says he is hoping to recoup his losses to build a world headquarters which will be located somewhere in Louisiana.

CoverSix Training Academy is still providing active shooter training offsite.
