The lead singer of a local band is taking the stage against domestic violence.
Ashley Addison, the lead singer of the Three37 band speaks out on being verbally, mentally, and then physically abused by a local Mixed Martial Arts fighter.
The worst attack occurred in March when she finally decided enough was enough. “I knew that I needed help and I knew that I couldn’t do it by myself,” said Addison.
She described March 1st as one of the scariest days of her life. She was attacked by her boyfriend and waited nearly a month before speaking out.
“From the moment I called the Faith House, the welcoming tone, and the voice of the lady who answered the phone, is what pulled me in,” she added.
With support from the community, family, and friends she used the Faith House as an avenue for legal protection and healing.
“They’re willing to meet with you, spend time with you, go through your story, find out what happened to you and help you move forward,” said Addison.
Moving forward is exactly what she’s doing. As the lead singer of the Three37 band, despite everything that happened, she never missed a beat.
“It gives the community a face and shows them that domestic violence and dating violence spans over all avenues, all ethnicities, all types of people in the community. Doesn’t matter where you grew up, what you look like,” said Nicole Lopez, the Developmental Director of Faith House.
She is thrilled to see Addison’s progress, but also willing to become a platform for others. “It’s going to bring enormous awareness and hopefully touch other people’s lives and show them that if they’re in a situation like that, they have somebody to call,” Lopez added.
“I never let fear stop me from speaking out. I’m not sure what it was inside of me,” said Addison. “I felt like, the episode that happened, I couldn’t do anything to change it, but moving forward maybe moving forward maybe my story fan empower someone else,” she said.
Addison, the Three37 Band, and the Grouse Room are hosting an awareness event on June 14th. It is dedicated to Faith House services.
