For students heading back to class in Acadia Parish, it will be “cool” to go to school.
Students across Acadia Parish will notice their classrooms to be a bit brighter and cooler this year, and with the lights turned on and the AC turned down Egan Elementary is gearing up for yet another successful school year.
Egan Elementary is one of five schools throughout Acadia Parish that received a new air conditioning system. The system is believed to provide a more even air supply and be more cost efficient.
Principal, Neal Young says he believes the new units will make a big impact in the classroom. “The issue with those units, the noise factor. These new units not only establish a more controlled classroom temperature, but also will assist the teacher because a lack of noise will exist during the classroom setting.”
Young says the classrooms were cooled with only one noisy window unit.
April Trahan, a 6th grade teacher says the new units will make teaching and learning much easier. “I’d have to turn it off then when we were doing something else then on again. Then when we start discussing something else I’d have to turn it back off again. When they are hot they are uncomfortable and these can stay on all the time.”
In addition to air conditioning, Egan Elementary also received new LED light bulbs. The lights where installed in the classrooms, cafeteria, and gym. Principal Young says the new lights are much brighter and energy efficient. He feels the upgrades enhance the teacher’s efforts and students learning. “I believe that we will see nothing but positive benefits from the new air conditioning units and the new lighting. That will ultimately lead to the continued success of our students.”
Principal Young says he is excited for the students to be able to enjoy a brighter, quieter learning experience.
