VERMILION PARISH, La. (KLFY)- A Vermilion parish mother claims two of her daughters were sexually assaulted by former Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s deputy, Bryan Kibodeaux.

 

Ashley Landry sat down with News 10 in an exclusive interview to share her family’s nightmare and her demand for justice. 

 

Landry said her 8-year-old autistic daughter was sexually assaulted by Kibodeaux for years. During the investigation into complaints of alleged abuse, detectives also found out that her 5-year-old was a victim as well.

 

According to the District Attorney’s Office, Bryan Kibodeaux was indicted on April 22.

The former deputy was a longtime family friend. His ex-wife and Landry’s husband went to school together.

 

“He would lay her on the bed, and take his shirt and tie it around her eyes, and would forcefully do things to her,” Landry said.

 

The past three months have been a nightmare for Landry and her children.

“He was kind of like the uncle the kids never had, ‘Uncle Bryan’ they called him,” the mother of three said. 

She said two of her children, ages 8 and 5, were both allegedly sexually assaulted by the former law enforcement veteran of 18 years.

“You’re a cop. You’re supposed to protect and serve,” Landry said.  “And you didn’t. You hurt my children.”

Landry said she found out about the alleged abuse back in late January when her 8-year-old did not want to sleep over at Kibodeaux’s house.

The 8 year old eventually told her mom what happened, Landry said.

“Your 8-year-old child is telling you these gruesome things, and you just, you don’t know how to react. You don’t know what to say. All I kept telling her was he’ll never hurt you again. He’ll never touch you again.”

Landry said she contacted State Police and Homeland Security.

The 8-year-old girl was also reportedly interviewed by Hearts of Hope, which assisted in the investigation and provided the forensic interview.

“We didn’t know at the time that my middle child, had went through it as well,” Landry said.

 

The following week, a search warrant was issued for Kibodeaux’s home in Abbeville and he was arrested.
Landry said her oldest daughter remembered the abuse started in his camper after the August flood of 2016.

“You never imagine your child being molested. And then you have to bring them to make sure they don’t have STDs at 5 years old,” Landry said.

She said she can’t trust anyone.

She believes a $500,000 bond for the 23 sex crime charges, including four counts of first degree rape, against Kibodeaux, is “just a slap on the wrist.”

“The fact that he admitted, a written confession to hurting my child, and that he can walk today. And be out for years, before he’s arrested, is mind blowing,” she said.

 

Landry said seeing her daughters go through this ordeal brings back painful memories.

“When I was 8 years old I was raped. My daughter is 8. No mother wants this to happen to their child, and it’s heartbreaking,” she said. “But because it happened, I need to do something, because they’re too little to do anything.”

Landry says her family has now put camera systems all around her house, changed the locks, put a BOLO (be on the look out) notice at their girls’ school as a precaution if Kibodeaux makes bond.

She said her 8 year old is on medicine and in counseling.

Landry herself has been out of work for the past thee months and is attending counseling. She said her 5 year old is too young to understand what happened.
 

Regarding her 2-year-old son, they will never truly know if anything happened to him because he’s so young, the mother said.
