The Louisiana Department of Health’s Office of Public health is offering STD testing at no cost to patients at select Parish Health Units beginning today and running until Thursday.

This is in support of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s STD Awareness Month.

The Office of Public Health is hoping the initiative will promote awareness about STDs and remove potential barriers for screening and testing.

Residents can also receive free testing for HIV.

Officials say the screening is for people who are unsure of their STD status.

Testing will be available in Lafayette at the Parish Health Unit at 220 W. Willow St., Building A during normal business hours.

Testing will also be done today at Health Units in Houma and Lake Charles.

They also recommend that those who are experiencing symptoms should contact their local parish health unit to schedule an appointment at a time other than during the screening.
