A Louisiana woman has been arrested after a medical examination revealed her 2-year-old son had multiple “obvious human bite marks” on his body and was suffering from bleeding in the brain caused by intentional trauma, authorities say.
Doneisha Renee Carter, 20, of Zachary took the boy to an emergency room in December because he was vomiting, complaining of a headache, wouldn’t eat and was possibly having seizures, police said
A CAT scan showed bleeding in the boy’s brain, an East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s report says. Doctors said the bleeding was caused by intentional trauma and likely not the result of seizure activity.
A doctor also found multiple human bite marks on different parts of the boy’s body, all in different stages of healing, authorities said.
Carter told authorities she thought the bite marks were from insects or her nephew, 4.
However, authorities said an expert told police the bite marks were not from another child.
Deputies said family members told police Carter routinely left the child unsupervised or traveled with him late at night around town, according to the station.
Carter was arrested for second-degree cruelty to juveniles.
